Debit or credit?  When merchants ask you this question, they are simply asking how you would like the transaction processed. No matter how you respond ­ debit or credit ­the purchase will be deducted from your checking account. In other words, if you say "credit," the purchase will not be billed to a credit card. When you choose "credit," it actually helps the credit union and other members because it is more efficient and less costly.

Want cash back?  When you make a purchase at participating merchants, you can get cash back when you choose "debit." The amount of cash and availability of this service depends on the merchant.

Pay at the Pump?  When you choose to pay for your gas at the pump with your SRFCU Visa Debit Card, the system does not know how much gas you will be pumping so it preauthorizes an amount of $50. An automatic hold for $50 will be placed against your account even if you only get $20 worth of gas. To avoid this situation, you can pay the cashier instead of paying at the pump.
